Eula Wylie, Bracelet, Kingman Turquoise, Old Style, Navajo Handmade, 7”
Tobe Turpen Sr. always talked about having to educate tourists in the early days about Native American jewelry. Buyers didn’t see Navajo silver as something of value, and that is where Mr. Turpen would talk about the craftsmanship and the turquoise used. Eventually, this jewelry would become popular and collectible. However, in those early years it was about weight, the turquoise, and design. Those works rarely had the hallmark of the maker, but later it become about the artist and the hallmark was desired by the purchaser. Today almost every piece has a hallmark like this cuff made by Eula Wylie. She uses a small cluster of deep blue Kingman Turquoise stones on an old style stamped cuff. This is going to be an everyday piece.
