Tressa Curtis, Apache Inspired Grass Basket, Blue Ribbon, Navajo
Tressa Curtis, Apache Inspired Grass Basket, Blue Ribbon, Navajo
It is believed that the Apache and Navajo arrived to the Southwest very close to the same time. They have many similarities and share some of the same language. Navajo basket weaver Tressa Curtis even takes her inspiration from them for her incredible large baskets. Her mother had pictures that she used to make her first baskets with, ones of old Apache baskets. We have an interview of her on our website that you might find interesting. This basket won a Blue Ribbon at the Inter-Tribal Ceremonial.
