Reginda Kallestewa, Earrings, Pierced, Owl, Sterling Silver, Zuni, 1.5
Reginda Kallestewa, Earrings, Pierced, Owl, Sterling Silver, Zuni, 1.5
Gallup, New Mexico is surrounded by the Navajo and Zuni Reservations. I would assume most people who do not live with a large Native American population think of them as one people. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. The Zuni and Navajo are very different. You mention an owl sighting to a Navajo and that is not a good thing, and on the other hand what a blessing in Zuni when an owl is sighted. The Zuni artist Reginda Kallestewa, who made these mother of pearl shell and jet inlay earrings gives the special creature a very fun look, enjoy.
