Fred Thompson and Leekya Deyuse, Frog Fetish Bracelet 6 1/4"
Fred Thompson and Leekya Deyuse, Frog Fetish Bracelet 6 1/4"
Legendary Zuni carver Leekya Deyuse might be best known for his fabulous carved birds, but many of his collectors admire the unique frogs he created. These two signature carvings are from Nevada stone and have that wonderful Leekya Character. Navajo silversmith Fred Thompson spent many years working in the in-house shop here at Tope Turpen Trading Post. Later he would open up his own shop in Churchrock, NM and continue to make more spectacular pieces. Fred Thompson began making silver in the 1940s and could have made this in collaboration with Leekya Deyuse, or could have been given to him by another trader. The piece is circa 1960s and has two great frog carvings, excellent silver, and that wonderful aged patina. You will be impressed with this museum quality piece, something you can admire for a lifetime.
