Ranee Frank, Ring, Nevada Turquoise, Orange Spiny Oyster, Navajo, 7
Ranee Frank, Ring, Nevada Turquoise, Orange Spiny Oyster, Navajo, 7
If you have taken an interest in Navajo jewelry and done some research you will come across the idea that jewelry was worn as a display of wealth among the Navajo. I think of some of those early pieces you see in books and realize that they could be priceless works of art, museum pieces. Jewelry was something that had value and could be used in trade, and it was also a display of pride, we made that. This may be the reason that we see such large creations. Many times, I have had a customer try on a squash blossom necklace and immediately feel uncomfortable wearing it because of the size. Navajo silversmith Ranee Frank made this ring with the same big Navajo jewelry influence. He has used a beautiful collection of orange Spiny Oyster stones that showcases light and dark orange shades. The ring is going to show off big and get you lots of admiring attention.
