Jessie Bitsui, Rug, Teec Nos Pos, Navajo, 31" x 48"
Description
Before the trains started coming to this part of the world and businesses like the Fred Harvey Company began selling Navajo jewelry to the masses, most people back east knew nothing of the Navajo. Traders like JB Moore were among the first to introduce Navajo art to collectors back east, focusing on rugs, not silver. He compiled a catalog of different weavings that would be sold in large quantities. More traders began to introduce Navajo weavings and even influence certain styles. Today, the Trading Posts carry on this tradition. We have a large collection of weavings, ranging from classic Ganado Reds to Germantown Revivals. We also have old antiques that possess character from age, alongside new contemporary weavings. Enjoy looking through our online collection and remember: if you don't see what you are looking for, we have many more in the Post.
Navajo weaver Jessie Bitsui is from an area rich in weaving tradition. She is known for her Teec Nos Pos style rugs and has taught her young daughters the traditional art. You will be blown away by the intricate design that captures so many Four Corners elements. The rug is classic Teec Nos Pos with a heavy border and an Oriental feel. Rosemary weaves this rug with a tightness that will allow it to last for generations of daily use. If this one is a little big, we have a few other shorter runners here at the Trading Post, just ask us for some pictures.
