Phillip Yazzie, Earrings, Pilot Mountain Turquoise, Navajo, 1"
Phillip Yazzie, Earrings, Pilot Mountain Turquoise, Navajo, 1"
Gallup, New Mexico is like the hub of a wheel. You have these spokes that go out in every direction, the same is true here. To the north you have the Navajo and Ute Nations, to the south Zuni, to the east Acoma, and the west the Hopi. When they say this is Indian Country they mean it. We are a city outside of the reservations that have a majority Native American population. That means it is influenced by the Navajo and Pueblo cultures, from the food to the art. Our stone of choice is turquoise, and you will see lots of it here. Navajo silversmith Phillip Yazzie honors that tradition with this pair of Pilot Mountain Turquoise earrings. He surrounds the stunning rocks with twisted wire, mirror polish finish and stamped drops.
