Zuni artists Robert & Bernice Leekya made these stunning big turquoise and silver ring. The Zuni Reservation is off any major highways in New Mexico, and many would consider this a remote part of New Mexico in the middle of nowhere. That is just fine with many Zuni people because they are very protective of their culture and ceremonies. I have driven through Zuni in the middle of the night and have seen Mudheads running across the road. The other thing about Zuni is almost everyone is involved in some capacity with the art trade. Things here are done in the old ways, all by hand. Zuni artists purchase rough stone to fit their style of settings. Bernice takes a tremendous amount of time cutting stones so they will match in color.
