Philander Begay, Buckle, Navajo Yei' be Chei' Mask, Turquoise, Handmade, 1 1/2"

They have been put up for auction in Paris, and successfully returned to Navajo Land, Turn of the century photographer Edward Curtis took many images with the Yei be Chei being the subject of the photo. The Yei be Chei is sacred, and the wearer of the masks takes on the powers of the Holy People and that makes the mask sacred. Navajo artist Philander Begay has made pieces with the Yei be Chei mask. This time he has turned it into a one-of-a-kind buckle. Decorated with a piece of beautiful Kingman Turquoise.
